During my depressive episodes, I used to look at the sky and wish if I had wings to escape my life.
Today I turn 24 years old and I feel like adulting is giving me these invisible wings.
If you care at all, allow me to tell you how.
But first you need to be able to distinguish between two different worlds we all live in to be able to follow through.
Your external world is everything you think you are. Your accomplishments, your relationships, your titles, your statuses, your bank account, and basically where you are at life.
Your internal world is who you really are. Your ego, your traumas, your emotions, your thoughts, your habits, and most importantly your soul and being.
When you grow up, your external world gets more complicated because of all the added responsibilities, expectations, heartaches, and competition.
That’s why adulting may seem exhausting.
But what about your internal world?
If you put the effort into it, your accumulated life experiences, knowledge, wisdom, and self-awareness could make your internal world flourish and brighten as you grow older.
Anyway, as a teenager and a younger adult sure my external world was relatively responsibility free, but I was always lost and frequently depressed. I was literally scared to live because my depression made me believe that I will always have to struggle.
However, the older I got and the more I invested in getting to know myself, the lighter my spirit felt. I am not scared to live anymore and I now get why people think of life as a blessing.
This is why I genuinely don’t care if my pile of responsibilities and heartaches pile up to a mountain as I grow older, I would gladly take them to build a saner internal world if that’s what it takes. Because trust me, focusing on your external world could surely take you places, but focusing on your internal world WILL take you places.
So, the next time your external world gives you a hard time, don’t hate on adulting.
Just take a deep breath and realize that you have a different world to conquer and that adulting might have given you your own invisible wings 💙.
