@robotal and I drove out here the day before, crossing the ferry and arriving at the Hurricane Hill parking lot at 10-11PM. It was HELLA foggy.. one second we could see the milky way, and another second I could barely see the other end of the parking lot.
When we woke up at 4AM, literally took one look outside, saw the thick fog still there, and decided screw it.. let’s go home. But when we started driving down under the fog.... good lord. An entire sea of clouds underneath us. Sun rising. We 180’d the car, raced back to the trailhead, and nearly died sprinting up to the viewpoint. And although the view was still super occluded by fog, it cleared for juuust long enough to snap a few pics. Experiencing sunrises like this is one of my favorite things in life. Entire place to yourself, nothing but you (friends) and the private light show nature puts on for you.
Unfortunately I had to do a LOT of salvaging for this picture - I the foreground and trees were pretty heavily blocked by fog, even when it cleared for us on top. Dehaze is an amazing tool, but it still has ways to go. I’ll definitely be back to take a more complete, high resolution, non-grainy landscape photo in the future.
