abaddon rum oak - @tartarusbeers - ba russian imp stout - 17.0% - talk about making an entrance! new brewery to the leeds scene is jack and jordan of tartarus brewery based in my hometown of horsforth. i will be completely honest and say i was quite scared to have this beer, owing to its incredible strength. but, the temptation grew and so the beast was unleashed.
zero carbonation on the pour. very thick. huge malty sweet aromas mingling with dark toasty demerara sugar. super slick mouthfeel, almost whisky like. flavours are so roasty and dark, whilst remaining rich and moreish. the rum aging adds a sizzling booze lead finish, but literally zero alcohol burn. none. this is the epitome of decadence. like the most lucrative and expensive dark chocolate in beer form.
15 malts, a load of demerara sugar and honey equals easily the best stouts, nay beers, i have had this year by a long shot. this is truly an imperial worthy of notoriety, one which would make even the most established stout breweries second guess themselves. i cannot give this beer any more praise. i emplore you to find this or the standard version and set aside an hour or so to mull it over and succumb to this beastly beer. take a bow, tartarus.
