Mnemonic and tips to remember. Review this muscle below ⤵️ Read on @rev.med⁣  ⁣  💭 Everyone has a purpose, even YOU reading this right now. It’s up to you to find it. When you do… share your story and help someone find their own. What we dwell on is who we become… so let’s dwell better.   ⁣  ✅ Overview⁣  ⁣  Serratus anterior muscle is a fan shaped muscle at the lateral wall of the thorax. It is found deep under the scapula and pectoral muscles. We can palpate it rather easily in between the pectoralis major muscle & latissimus dorsi muscles. @rev.med⁣  ⁣  ✅ Origin⁣  ⁣  Surface of the 1st to 8th or 9th ribs at the side of the chest. ⁣  ⁣  ✅ Insertion ⁣  (Swipe to see diagram)⁣  ⁣  Inserts on anterior length of the medial border of the scapula & Divided into 3 parts:⁣  ⁣  1️⃣ From 1st to 2nd ribs - Inserts onto superior angle of scapula.⁣  2️⃣ From 2nd to 3rd ribs - Inserts onto medial border of scapula⁣  3️⃣ From 4th to 9th ribs - Inserts onto medial border & inferior angle of scapula @rev.med⁣  ⁣  ✅ Innervation⁣  ⁣  Long Thoracic nerve (C5, C6, C7) ⁣  ⁣  ✅ Function⁣  ⁣  Allows for the forward rotation of the arm and to pull the scapula forward around the rib cage. The scapula moves laterally due to this muscle which is needed to “raise your arms to heaven”. Allows you to lift items above your head due to its upward rotation. ⁣  🧠 Plus points: Serratus anterior muscle also helps in breathing by lifting the ribcage. @rev.med⁣  ⁣  ✅ Mnemonics⁣  ⁣  ‘SALT’⁣  Serratus Anterior = Long Thoracic ⁣  ⁣  Innervation & Action⁣  ⁣  *Long Thoracic nerve root values C5, C6, C7 ⁣  “Raise your arms to heaven”⁣  ⁣  *Tests C5, C6, C7 roots clinically by ability to raise arm past 90 degrees.⁣  ⁣  Check out our latest Ebook - Free to download! Sartorius muscle. The sartorius is the longest muscle in the body. It is long and thin, running across the thigh in a inferomedial direction. The sartorius is positioned more superficially than the other muscles in the leg. Attachments: Originates from the anterior superior iliac spine, and attaches to the superior, medial surface of the tibia. Actions: At the hip joint, it is a flexor, abductor and lateral rotator. At the knee joint, it is also a flexor. Innervation: Femoral nerve. @doctor.__.insta #anatomy #medicine #art #medical #doctors #surgery #drawing #health #science #anatomia #medstudent #medschool #nurse #medicalschool #sketch #physiology #pathology #anatomyandphysiology #artist #medicalstudent #biology #doctors #mbbs #hospital #illustration #study #pericardium #medlife #sciatica #medical_page

pituitary gland A small, gray, rounded gland that develops from ingrown oral epithelium (Rathke pouch) and is attached to the lower surface of the hypothalamus by the infundibular stalk. The Rathke pouch portion forms the anterior lobe and an intermediate area; the neural tissue of the infundibular stalk forms the posterior lobe. The pituitary gland averages 1.3 × 1.0 ×0.5 cm in size and weighs 0.55 to 0.6 g. Function The pituitary is an endocrine gland secreting a number of hormones that regulate many bodily processes including growth, reproduction, and other metabolic activities. It is often referred to as the “master gland of the body.” Anterior lobe: GH,ACTH,TSH,FSH,LH and prolactin. Posterior lobe: Oxytocin, vasopressin (ADH) Disorders Hypersecretion of anterior lobe causes gigantism, acromegaly, and pituitary basophilism (Cushing disease). Hyposecretion of anterior lobe causes dwarfism, pituitary cachexia (Simmonds disease), Sheehan syndrome, acromicria, eunuchoidism, or hypogonadism. Posterior lobe deficiency or hypothalamic lesion causes diabetes insipidus. Anterior and posterior lobe deficiency and hypothalamic lesion cause Fröhlich syndrome (adiposogenital dystrophy) and pituitary obesity. @doctor.__.insta #anatomy #medicine #art #medical #doctors #surgery #drawing #health #science #anatomia #medstudent #medschool #nurse #medicalschool #sketch #physiology #pathology #anatomyandphysiology #artist #medicalstudent #biology #doctors #mbbs #hospital #illustration #study #pericardium #medlife #sciatica #medical_page

Please swipe to learn and read the notes below ⤵️ @rev.med      👩🏽‍🔬👩🏼‍💼👩🏾‍🔧👩🏻‍🎓👩🏻‍🏫👩🏽‍⚕️👷🏼‍♀️   This month we are celebrating women!    Wishing you a Happy Women’s history month! 👇🏽 Comment below a woman that has inspired you!       👀 Download our new book (LINK IN BIO)       Ovarian Cycle & Menstrual Cycle      ✅ Overview       Ovarian cycle prepares the endocrine tissues and the release of eggs, while the menstrual cycle prepares and maintains the uterine lining. These cycles both happen together and run approx a 22-32 day cycle, with an average length of 28 days. @rev.med      ✅ Follicular phase       Slowly rising levels of FSH & LH cause the growth of follicles on the surface of the ovary, which prepares the egg for ovulation. Follicles grow and release estrogens and low levels of progesterone. The trip through the fallopian tube takes about 7 days. If pregnancy implantation does not occur, the lining is sloughed off. After about 5 days, estrogen levels rise and the menstrual cycle enters the proliferative phase. The endometrium begins to regrow, replacing the blood vessels and glands that deteriorated during the end of the last cycle. @rev.med      ✅ Ovulation       Day 14 - high levels of estrogen causes FSH and LH to rise rapidly, then fall. The spike in LH causes ovulation and the most mature follicle ruptures and releases its egg. The follicles that did not rupture degenerate and their eggs are lost. The level of estrogen decreases when extra follicles degenerate. Congenital disease undergoing infusion therapy. Frontal radiograph shows bowing of the femurs with symmetric sclerotic striping of the long bone metaphyses. Diagnosis: Osteogenesis imperfecta with bisphosphonate lines (zebra stripe sign). During bisphosphonate infusion, increased osteoblastic activity along the metaphyseal aspect of the physis leads to sclerotic lines, which then migrate with patient growth in between infusions. Dense metaphyseal bands such as these have a wide differential diagnosis. #medicinaestetica #memes #medhumor #diseases #hospital #nurse #nursingschool #motivation #usmlestep1📘 ysician #registerednurse #dermatologia #fitness #memes #medicine #medicalschool #mbbs #motivation #medicalscience #medical #mci #medlife #usmle Follow @nursing_officers_rn #usmlestep1  #fmge_mci_exam #neet #nurses #nursingschool #anatomyandphysiology2 #anatomyandphysiology #doctors #diseases #surgery #nitesh_m_9411 #nursing_officers_rn

Here is a second video clip on the “Tom, Dick, and Harry muscles”. 🙎🏽‍♂️🙎🏽💇‍♂️😊😊 . Tom = Tibialis posterior. 🙎🏽‍♂️ . Dick = flexor Digitorum longus. 🙎🏽 . Harry = flexor Hallucis longus. 🙍 . They all originate proximally in the deep posterior compartment of the leg, and then enter the foot by crossing posteriorly and inferiorly / distally to the medial malleolus of the tibia. 🦴 🦴 . So all three plantarflex and invert the foot (at the talocrural / subtalar joints). 💪💪💪 . Cadaver labs for learning anatomy are the gold standard. Did you know about this difference? Isn’t this some interesting stuff? @rev.med    📚 Spend a minute to download our new book! It’s a guide for our current disease!   🌐 Link in Bio     ➡️ Swipe and read the notes below!     ✅ Male Vs Female Pelvis    The differences between the adult female and male pelvis relate to function and body size.     In general, the bones of the male pelvis are thicker and heavier, adapted for support of the male’s heavier physical build and stronger muscles. The greater sciatic notch of the male hip bone is narrower and deeper than the broader notch of females. @rev.med    Because the female pelvis is adapted for childbirth, it is wider than the male pelvis, as evidenced by the distance between the anterior superior iliac spines. The ischial tuberosities of females are also farther apart, which increases the size of the pelvic outlet. Because of this increased pelvic width, the subpubic angle is larger in females (greater than 70 degrees) than it is in males (less than 70 degrees). @rev.med    The female sacrum is wider, shorter, and less curved, and the sacral promontory projects less into the pelvic cavity, thus giving the female pelvic inlet (pelvic brim) a more rounded or oval shape compared to males. The lesser pelvic cavity of females is also wider and more shallow than the narrower, deeper, and tapering lesser pelvis of males.     *Because of the obvious differences between female and male hip bones, this is the one bone of the body that allows for the most accurate sex determination.    👀 If people are doubting how far you can go... go so far that you can’t hear them anymore! One difference between self practice sequence & a class sequence- is that you can roll around the room freely, changing direction, speed, & ignoring the shape of a yoga mat- or a few! . In zoom yoga I need to leave time for students to turn back towards the camera whenever the sequence changes direction, whereas in studio I just move around the students. . But out of the freeplay or the intentioned focus of self practice (there are many approaches) comes the inspiration to teach. . The teaching might be born around a movement idea, or a breath practice or meditation, and involves an integration of the body, mind & breath which has the potential to be affirming, healing, centreing as we come home to ourselves in the moment. . This aspect the sharing of the actual “teachings” that inspire the movement, the reason for the movement with breath, is harder to show on instagram. . But for every random(!) pose or flow, there is an intention of finding ease & acceptance in oneself, with oneself in each moment. . This sequence integrates concentric & eccentric contractions (muscle fibres “shorten” & then “lengthen”) in specific areas of the body- eg side plank variations into revolved Janu A. . The roll around the room/ world option comes from the hip extension (leg reaching behind as you turn towards prone) in the same leg each time. I could have kept going in a whole circle before returning back the other way for balance! . I like this reach behind with the leg as the glutes initiate the movement so are primed ready for the backbend. . Do you find yourself moving freely or having a focus to your practice or teaching plan? I love that there are SO many ways to approach this practice and none them can be wrong, because we are all already perfect, perhaps just waiting to realise as much. . I hope you have a peaceful weekend. I’ll try not to get tied up into too many dog leads on our walks! More in stories of course dogs & perhaps yoga! Big love yogis 🖤🐶🐶🐶 . . . .

A S S E S S M E N T One of our roles as nurses is to assess the patient, document information and determine needs. I have made this acronym to help remember the assessment process. History: this can be a huge clue in understanding a patient’s healthcare needs and concerns but any new concerns should still be considered independently. I : interviewing is how we can assess patients in an efficient, professional manner. I : documenting accurate information is absolutely essential for the patient and other healthcare professionals. P : physical assessments should be conducted to check vitals and to identify concerns. O : observe the patient as they speak and move. Are they in obvious pain? Are they sweaty? Are they vomiting? And anything else that may concern you. I know the theory I’m studying will be useful one day. Just can’t wait to see it all in practice. ❤️ #nursing #nursingstudent #nurse #nurselife #nurselife💊💉 #studentnurse #studentnurseuk #anatomyandphysiology #studentnurseuk

not sure I’m really ready to farewell summer yet but at this ebb&flow of the seasons, let’s revisit our AUTUMN wellness reminders to get us more in the mood! 🍁in Traditonal Chinese Medicine, this is time to nurture and if need be, rebalance the ‘Metal’ element, housing the organs/meridians of Lung (yin) = breathing in the new and Large Intestine (yang) = expelling the old • focus on the deep breath, decluttering, slowing down and turning inward, increasing rest, rugging up - basically, taking good care of and fortifying your immune system in preparation for the colder months ahead 🍂 remember in any energetic medicine, these ideas can be applied or hold relevance in a physical, mental, energetic or emotional sense 🍁warming essential oils for autumn include Eucalyptus, Pine, Thyme [Lung meridian] and Marjoram, Neroli, Fennel, Clove bud [Large Intestine] - be sure to check suitability of essences for you before using 🍁Solar Plexus chakra will also benefit from some TLC at this time : exercising the diaphragm (= breathing!); the colour yellow; warmth of fire element - candles, fireplaces; mantra of ‘Ram’; citrine or tiger’s eye crystals; guitar [chose this on the clinic Spotify today!] or trumpet music; focus on digestive/pancreatic (blood sugars) function; invite plenty of rest; an affirmation of will, e.g. ‘I love and accept myself,’ or ‘I direct my own life.’ Book via my bio for a PERSONALISED BALANCE TO THIS SEASONAL TRANSITION at either @wind_water_health South Melbourne or @flourish_yarraville 🙏🏻🍁 breathe. listen. be well. #ebbandflow #summer #autumn #naturalbalance #kinesiology #reiki #intuitivemeditation #soundhealing #wellness #energyflow #yourrythm #lookwithin #energymedicine #anatomyandphysiology #mentalhealth #breath #stressrelief #personalpower #lungmeridian #largeintestinemeridian #metalelement #solarplexuschakra #manipura #adifferentapproachtohealth #preventativemedicine

A recent acquisition, to be on public display here at the Museum soon: 24-month old human child skull with Hydrocephalus. Note: these are real, and meant to educate about rare and difficult to treat conditions. Inappropriate comments will not be tolerated. The term hydrocephalus is derived from the Greek words "hydro" meaning water and "cephalus" meaning the head. Although it translates as "water on the brain," the word actually refers to the buildup of cerebrospinal fluid, a clear organic liquid that surrounds the brain and spinal cord, and absorbs into the bloodstream. The excess fluid increases the size of the ventricles and puts pressure on the brain, sometimes causing damage of brain tissues and a range of brain function impairments. Some cases of hydrocephalus are present at birth, while others develop in childhood or adulthood. Hydrocephalus can be inherited genetically, or occur as a result of brain tumors, head injuries, hemorrhage or diseases. Thanks to modern medicine, hydrocephalus is now most commonly treated indirectly by implanting a flexible tube, known as a “shunt,” under the skin to drain and divert the excess fluid away from the brain, keeping the intracranial pressure within normal limits. Typically, the shunt system remains in place for the duration of a patient's life, although additional operations to revise the shunt system are sometimes needed. . . . #skeletonmuseum #humanskull #osteology #anatomy #humananatomy #anatomyandphysiology #anatomystudy #osteo #pathology #hydrocephalus #skulls💀 #hydrocephalusawareness #hydrocephaluswarrior #skulls #naturalhistory #skullcollector #skullcollection #skulls #skullsunlimited #humanskulls #skullsofinstagram #bonemuseum

[#MusclesToTheMasses] PECTORALIS MAJOR. ... The big chest muscle. Need I say more? ... Pec Major (for short), or for shorter, Pec is the muscle on the front and upper part of your torso that gets bigger with things like bench and floor press, chest flys, cable cross-overs, etc. ... It's main movements are on the humerus (that funny upper arm muscle) and help adduct the arm ("add" it to the body, so bring closer to the body) both when the arm is at your side and when it's stretched out straight like a zombie, medially rotate the upper arm, and flex the arm (as if you're about to wave hello). ... NOTE: this drawings mentions extend the upper arm with the lower fibers and I'd really say that's only when your arm is at a "Y" and you're bringing it back down to your side. ... The reason the pec is so powerful is because of it's fan-like shape that flattens when the arm is out at a diagonal (picture that "Y" again). ... Want to picture all actions together? Imagine John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever. Taking your hand from prime disco stance down to your opposite pocket is where this muscle stays alive. (Get it!?) ... [image description: a hand drawing, done in purple, of the pectoralis major. The muscle is seen from the front and drawn in the left half of the image. Several facts about the pectoralis major, including its origin, insertion, and (many) actions, are handwritten to the right of the muscle, in black and purple.]

𝓐𝓷𝓪𝓽𝓸𝓶𝔂 𝓪𝓷𝓭 𝓟𝓱𝔂𝓼𝓲𝓸𝓵𝓸𝓰𝔂 Hey all!✨ In this post, I’ll be sharing my study tips for Anatomy and Physiology🫀I took A&P 1 my fall semester of Freshman year, and A&P 2 that spring—both of which had a complimentary lab once per week. These courses are definitely a ton of information, and you learn all the way from the chemical and cellular level of each body system, to the overall gross anatomy 🫁 They were some of my favorite classes I’ve ever taken, but part of that is because I fell into a great study routine that worked for me, which helped me achieve high As in both sections! So, here is what I have to share—below is a quick summary, and the posts above have the nitty gritty!🪴 —— 🧠 | Start by taking a learning style quiz to tailor your study sessions and maximize your absorption of the material. 🫁 | Utilize your professors PowerPoints for your main study material, and ask if you’re expected to know any other content from the book or other sources. 🫀 | Make flashcards for anything you need to memorize (which in my experience was almost everything😅) and quiz yourself out loud to utilize active recall. 🧠 | Fill out and skim any study guides your professor gives you—these are great for zeroing in on key topics. 🫁 | Study a little bit every day to stay ahead of the game, and learn over time rather than cramming. 🫀| Lastly, don’t forget to take time for self care so you don’t get burnt out—go ace that exam! :) —— 🏷#nursingstudent #nursingschool #nursingstudentlife #prenursing #prenursingstudent #nurse #anatomyandphysiology #studytips #study #focus

Great post from @master_cardiology ⭕This device technology is distinguishable from current thrombectomy devices as it does not rely on inefficient clot fragmentation as most current devices do. Instead this system provides ‘en bloc’ thrombus removal with both mechanical traction and vacuum aspiration, essentially functioning as an atraumatic “endovascular Fogarty technique” with added vacuum aspiration ❗❗Arresting of blood flow allows for a more focused aspiration because blood is not getting in the way of aspirating the clot. Existing technologies aspirate a large amount of blood along with the clot, making them very inefficient . . . . . #Medicallifetz #bloodclot #thrombosis #healthcare #foamed #nurse #studentnurse #medicalstudents #anatomyandphysiology #nursepractitioner #aprn #cathlab #cathlabnurse #physicianassistant #cardiologynurse #cardiologyfellow #cardiologynp
