The nose knows! When lil’ Mr. Red finally gets himself righted (😂), you can see his nose immediately begins the quest for the milk bar. Because each nostril smells individually, he’s “smelling in stereo”, locating not just the heavenly aroma, but its location as well.
His 300 million specialized olfactory cells (compared to a human’s 5 million) inform him that the jackpot is near. Already, his keen sense of smell recognizes the distinct odor profile of the milk bar. (I’ve heard it said that if a human can smell a spritz of perfume in a room, a dog would have no trouble smelling it in an enclosed stadium - mind-boggling!).
While he cannot yet see or hear, his sense of smell is fully functioning. Thus, when Mama returns to the whelping box after a potty break, the bobble heads go into overdrive, swinging to and fro as they hone in on her location. And worry not - Mr. Red was happily at the milk bar within seconds of me ending this video!
