Diggo : Mom has experienced trembling and anxiety. It happened when she woke up and thought about taking me out of the crate for a walk. It was almost 4 month, the negative emotions tied her everytime she thought about me.
It was not healthy for me and mom, it affected a whole mom’s family too.
We met a trainer, he put me in the situation when mom felt anxious. I tried to bite a couple of dogs but my trainer corrected me before escalating. Prong collar work on me in a strong pull.
Collar fixed things? No. Trainer taught us basic obedience with food. Sadly food was not valuable for me at that time. My eyes are fixated to dogs, mom’s command is blown off the air. Meal time is off for 4 days. I was starving on the 5th day. Finally, I heard what mom wants. (Note : the training place is filled with a lot of dogs and next to the dog park. The distraction is so high. Many dogs bark, jump, and get excited)
Long story short, I am comfortable using a prong collar with mom’s command as well. The thing is, well-trained is not always well-behaved. I know commands but I lunged towards strangers and the dog as well. Mom’s correction was weak, it didn’t snap at me. That was the moment we decided to use an e-collar.
Mom observed my body languages : (trainer advised)
↣ tail half down, ears back means I’m comfortable
↣ eyes fixated to dogs/ strangers, tail up, head up, ears up. That moment, mom snapped me.
Correction also varies :
Stage 1. Mom voice/ command. Now it plays role after a year constant training
Stage 2. Prong to get my focus back on track
Stage 3. If level 1 or 2 does not work, e-collar is on. Sometimes on 7 for a high arousal, sometimes on 4 for recall or many more.
I’m a strong dog. Tools help us survive and set rules and expectations. We are long way to go. Mom not expect me to run around at dog parks. It’s just us being happy when we walk. Confident and relax when seeing dogs/ strangers around us.
