One of the challenges with swimming is that if dogs are underutilising one or more legs and compensating by overloading on other, they tend to do the same even in water. Nishi's right hind is injured and that's the one she's not using when standing and the muscles are atrophying. So when I planned to get her in water, I was not sure how to actually get her to use her hind legs, particularly her right. Julia gave me a really simple solution and this was our first attempt at it. At first, she reluctantly used her right hind and as she and I got the hang of her biomechanics in water, she was using her right hind leg quite a bit. We got those glutes working. Yay. So anyone wants to guess what Julia's suggestion was. .
Btw, I'm seeking distance support from Julia and Galen Myotherapy and I'm repeatedly in awe of the simple, yet smart solutions they provide, coming from their deep understanding of biomechanics. .
Also a shout out to Ramya Gowda and Praveen Raju of Furry Fairy for enabling this day. We got to see Nishi happy after a long time. This joy is precious for us. She's come up on the sofa today. This had not happened in a long long time. Thanks guys. You made it happen. ♥️ .
