Elizabeth Yee is the owner of Tonii Fresh Noodle, a restaurant located in the heart of Manhattan’s Chinatown. With a name like Tonii Fresh Noodle, you know you can’t go wrong with the rice rolls there. However, you should also pick up the sponge cake there as well: it’s popular with locals for good reason.
And while restaurants and stores gradually have been reopening in New York City, many mom-and-pop stores in Chinatown are still struggling. One of the best ways to help these businesses out is by patronizing their stores. If you’re in NYC but don’t know where to go in Chinatown, check out @sendchinatownlove ’s Instagram page. They designed a self-guided food crawl for the month of September. While the event is officially over, you can still use the list of participating businesses as a starting point for exploring Chinatown! It’ll be a fun and delicious way to support this special neighborhood.
Speaking of @sendchinatownlove, they also helped @withwarmwelcome podcast interview Elizabeth. You can check out her episode on Apple Podcasts and Spotify—Elizabeth has a compelling and moving story that underscores why its so important to help these small businesses in Chinatown.
