While prepping this mixed mushroom & sesame tart, I wanted a soft picture with warm tones.💛
I remember using a new aperture & feeling proud.
And yet, I found this photo in the archives unable to remember why I hadn’t shared it. Probably thought it wasn’t good enough.😐
Comparison often makes us forget what’s special about our work.
Sometime back I had an experience that completely changed my mindset around this.💛
At one point, the husband was an avid marathoner & I wondered how he ran 42 kms at a stretch. He said other runners inspired him.✌🏼
So, I took to running & signed up for a half marathon just to see what the fuss was about.🤓
Twas a night marathon. On that night, wave after wave, hundreds of folks took off from the starting line.🏃🏻♂️
Initially, I was navigating through the crowd trying to get a lead. When I finally got space to run, I was blocked by a group of girls.😖
They were covering the path, making it impossible to overtake. With a target time to finish, the delay was frustrating.
So I stepped on the muddy side & overtook them. As I turned around to give them my angry look, my heart stopped.😧
The girls were from an NGO, running with a blind girl, guiding & protecting her from aggressive runners.
I felt so small in that moment.😕
Further, I crossed a blade runner & then, a few men running with a heavy dragon boat tied to their waist. Just incredible! 👊🏼
That was the inspiring energy the husband always talked about.💛
I continued to overtake many runners but I realised that no matter how fast I ran, there were still a few hundred runners ahead of me.🤔
I could run faster than the person next to me, but what about those who started a wave earlier & were already ahead. There was no way to win this.🚫
So I began paying attention to my own speed, running each km faster than the other.💪🏼
It then struck me that a marathon wasn’t a race with others but all about running your own race - just like life.💛
There will always be those who run to compete, but we need to run our own race at our own pace & try making each Km just a tad better than the other. That’s the real win 🏆
