I haven’t had any solids for almost a week with this recovery from dental procedures. However, I got a couple restaurants this week to interview and to try out their menus. I’m absolutely stoked! [Ad in collaboration with Hotels.com] Having walked the coast path around Land’s End numerous times and dived the rocks around the Longships Lighthouse Susanne has come to know this final corner of England well. Land’s End is the most south-westerly part of England and is worth visiting to feel the rugged and remote landscape that is here. There is a commercial and bustling side to Land’s End with an exhibition and shops but walk a short distance along the coast path and you are surrounded by amazing landscapes, the crashing Atlantic Ocean and stunning wildlife. Seals can be seen in the surf around the rocks and sea birds soar at eye level on the thermals. This mix of commercial and wild makes it a great place to visit.

Almond and Amaretto Bundt Cake ❤️ It is just me or does anyone else get excited when they get a new bundt tin?! The excitement didn’t last too long especially when I had to crowbar the cake out of the tin once it had cooked. 😂Note to self – grease the tin with vegetable oil beforehand! I almost launched it up the garden when I thought all my efforts had been wasted but I’m glad I didn’t. Amber helped me to prize it out the tin and stick it together like a delicious edible sponge jigsaw puzzle. A bit of icing sugar and a few flowers 🌸scattered on and you’d be none the wiser! Anyhow, you must make it. It’s light, it’s fragrant and it has a gentle amaretto and almond taste that you will adore. I hope your version runs slightly smoother. Tonight I’ll be cooking my Chicken in Tomato & Olive Sauce (adapted from a Palomar recipe) with Saffron Chelow for dinner. Truth be told this smokey, lightly spiced tomato & olive sauce would be a true delight served alongside some roast chicken or lamb, or vegetables. You could use strips of chicken or 'pull' the leftover Sunday roast into shreds to fold through the sauce to make it much more time and budget friendly than adding large chicken quarters as I did. You could easily swap the rice for some Middle Eastern flatbreads for mopping up the delectable sticky sauce or somewhat unconventionally some ultra creamy mashed potatoes. It's a highly adaptable & addictive sauce - once tried, you’ll make it again and again. Finally got around to sharing my deliciously rich chocolate Oreo brownies with you all 😍😋cooked to absolute perfection 🍫🤤 I think Paul Hollywood would have given me a handshake for these! 😋😂 . Tips: 1. brownies turn out so much tastier when you use over 70% dark chocolate, I always use the lindtt excellence 90% cocoa supreme dark chocolate 🍫. 2. If you use butter with sea salt crystals like the one from Aldi, the brownies taste better too. 🧈 3. Don’t use the knock off oreos😂 4. When you put a toothpick in and it comes out a little runny, it’s fine! Take them out, you can tell they’re done from the cracking top. . Just Quit Already: Day By Day Through Year One Of Retirement Day 119, Tue Oct 27: I walk the long block to the mailboxes to retrieve the daily paper and then keep going to try to get in at least some semblance of a workout. I’m dedicated to my exercise regimen but not so much that I’m ready to run in the rain yet. I know I will have to face the music as we get into the real wet months ahead, pull on my raingear and get out in it. Just not today. I’m staying within 10 blocks of home so that I can make a dash for cover if necessary, without getting soaked. For dinner I made salmon patties, mashed potatoes, salad and fruit salad. Fruit salad is one of my staple recipes. I make it all the time to have for dessert, snacks and even full meals sometimes. The base is bananas, and then I need at least a couple of other fruits. The recipe – the method, more accurately — is to cut up whatever fruit I have on hand into bite-size bits and mix it up in a big bowl. I’m inclusive, fruit-wise. So if I have grapefruit and blueberries, say, they are in. I try to make enough to have leftovers but sometimes it tastes so good that it all gets eaten up on the first opportunity. Today the recipe was bananas, apples, oranges, kiwi, pineapple, two handfuls of my homemade trail mix (nuts and dried fruits), a sprinkle of shredded coconut, a shake of chia seeds and strawberry yogurt as a binding agent. Da hat der Shutdown der Betreiberin Sonja Kaufmann ordentlich ins Handwerk gepfuscht. Erst am 6. März fand das Küchen Opening mit großer Party und live Musik im Lokal in der Beethovenstraße statt. Kurze Zeit später das Aus für die neu eingeführte Küchenlinie im studentisch angehauchten Ecklokal. . Jetzt geht’s wieder los mit der Küche … und das wissen offenbar die Wenigstens, der Herr der Töpfe im Sunny’s ist kein Geringerer als Dominik Gaspar. Dominik wer? Ich darf kurz aufklären: Der 27-Jährige sammelte Erfahrungen als Chef de Partie im Familienhotel Moar-Gut und als Sous Chef im Hotel Krone in Au, bevor der gebürtige Feldbacher in die Genießerei am Markt » wechselte. Jetzt schwingt der kreative Koch seine Kochlöffel in der Beethovenstraße. . Wir haben uns das Lokal mit neuem Pächter und neuem Namen (ehemals Pharmacy und Durstküche) angesehen. Beim Umbau blieb kein Stein auf dem anderen, aus dem Bar-Raum, dominiert von Hochtischen und Hockern wurde ein Wohnzimmer. . Mein Fazit zum @sunnys_wohnzimmerkueche Das Lokal ist jetzt jedenfalls viel gemütlicher als vorher. Die Vorarlberger Gastgeberin hat sich wirklich alle Mühe mit der Deko gegeben. Das Lokal ist primär keine Speiselokal, aber die Ergänzung durch die beiden Menüs lässt einen Besuch vielleicht auch länger dauern 😊! To all the Popeye chicken posters everywhere (slightly salty I haven't had it yet 😒) , take an EPIC (non-crispy) FISH sandwich in allyuh waist from @mammamia_pizzeria2017 ⁣ ⁣ Very simple ingredients that work very very well together. Soft and chewy baguette, basil pesto, mayo, raw red onions (just enough for me to tolerate), pineapple slices which added a nice sweetness and a perfectly pan seared slab of fish.⁣ ⁣ I opted for the side salad (instead of potata crips) which was arugula, pickled pumpkin, diced tomatoes and a very UMAMI dressing...it was briney and salty with so much flavour. And a nice sharpness to it as well. Maybe they added anchovies to it but I added it to the sandwich itself and that made it SING. Its hard not to be even a tiny bit messy while eating this 'cause its so delicious and you'll be licking your lips constantly. ⁣ ⁣ My bestie and her picky eater daughter, who has a mature palette RAVED about this sandwich so much, they insisted I tried it IMMEDIATELY. WAGAMAMA, WHITE ROSE SHOPPING CENTRE, LEEDS 📍 There’s nothing better than something hot and soup-like whilst the weather is disgustingly rainy outside!🌧 We decided to go for a bit of window shopping today and went for a spot of lunch beforehand, and we all love Asian/Japanese food so decided on Wagamama’s ☺️ (it’s also really healthy too!) We decided to order two dishes to share alongside our mains so we got the pork belly with panko apple and siracha hirata steamed buns, and the ebi katsu which was prawns in crispy panko breadcrumbs, coriander, fresh lime and a chilli and garlic dipping sauce. The hirata buns were so nice! Such an interesting texture but they were so tasty, and the pork belly was nice and crisp too. The sauce which came with the ebi katsu was lush as well! For my main I decided on the chilli prawn and kimchi ramen which I’ve had before and posted on this page. It’s a spicy vegetable based broth with marinated tail on prawns, kimchi, beansprouts, spring onions, fresh lime and coriander. I love this dish mainly because it is so tasty and fresh! And it’s one at the healthiest dishes on the menu at 532kcal ☺️ (I’m not calorie counting anymore but I just remember from the last time we came🤣) My mum got the new shiok chicken which was turmeric, garlic & ginger marinated chicken roasted and served on coconut and lemongrass rice. I tried a bit of hers and all I can say is the chicken itself was so succulent and really flavourful. Molly chose a very popular Waga’s staple the chicken katsu curry, which was aromatic katsu curry sauce, chicken in crispy panko breadcrumbs, sticky white rice and a side salad. She did say it tasted quite spicy but nonetheless she did enjoy it. You can also pay on your phones now due to COVID which I thought was quite a good idea! The bill did come to £53(🥴) and I have said before on this page that it is quite expensive, but it makes up for it being all so fresh and flavourful; so I’m definitely not complaining!

I had sorta wanted to do something ~fancy~ for issue 10 of Nice Pear, but instead - in typical ‘me’ fashion - I had a minor crisis and took the week off 🙃 And one week turned into two, which bled into three, and now here we are, four weeks later.. But! It returned to inboxes on Sunday, with a bumper list of foodie news to read, and a new (more manageable) format going forward. I love sitting down to write my newsletter, but right now I just need to prioritise my time and energy on paid work. Clearly, an original, well-researched and well-written essay every week isn’t fitting into my schedule. I promised weekly(ish), so taking almost a month out wasn’t really part of the plan. I’m committed to publishing the ‘Things to Read’ portion of Nice Pear (curated links to interesting foodie content, alongside my own commentary) weekly, and an original Nice Pear essay at least once a month. This year Dussera was like no other year. The usual “Kolakoli” (hugging) was replaced by social distancing, face mask became an integral part of the otherwise carefree “Saaja Guja” (dressing up), pandals almost sported a deserted look instead of the usual hustle bustle of people and “Pujo-er Bhog khabar anando” was marred by the pandemic. Amidst all these, Maa arrived, made her presence felt and left the same void upon her departure. This year unlike every other year, there was no pandal hopping, no eating out, no roaming spree as such for us. But, we made sure to make the most of it at home. Starting from Maa-er pujo to following rituals (mostly eating part ;)) to cooking and eating our heart out, we did it all. I cooked all the Bengali delicacies usually cooked during these 6 days. Soft luchis dominated our palate for days together with aloo-r dum and chana-r daalna, while pujo-er Khichuri with begun bhaja and papad was “Bhishon” satiating. Shukto felt no less than a gourmet dish and mangsho jhol with bhaat was a dream. Chicken Kossa with porota tasted divine while I tried making Maalpua for the first time ever (not so perfect though). Tomato-khaajur-er chaatni wasn’t given a miss either and “Ghugni” in the evening on Bijoya Dasomi (yesterday) was a sheer delight...followed by phone calls to family and relatives to wish “Shubho Bijoya”. Yes, this year pujo was different but, the essence mostly intact. #feelingsonplatter This Durga Puja, I cooked to my hearts content at home (which doesn’t happen during these days) and we truly truly relished our Bong meals. Couldn’t post about the dishes because felt like taking a social media break but trust you me, food was a treat. “Ekdom jibhe jol” (Totally droolworthy)! Hope you all had a great time too. Bridie writes beautifully about Alan (Arthur), who was moved from the salty, vinegary tastes of London Docklands to North Africa as part of the RAF in WW2. In the desert, sand ruined a whole food group for him & the hunger he witnessed in Greece made eating a thing of guilt. 🐟 Oven-Baked Asian Style Salmon RECIPE⁠ ⁠ My mom always used to say how healthy fish is and that it makes me smarter. So I always try to include fish in diet😋. This oven-baked Asian Style Salmon dish is one of those dishes that I can never get tired of. It is easy, flavorful and can be made with counter ready ingredients: honey, garlic, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, black pepper, ginger and of course salmon. A lot of times when I bake salmon in the oven, it come out too dry, but the salmon stays juicy with the seasoning used for this recipe.⁠ ⁠ This recipe is from @damn_delicious and it's indeed damn delicious. Only comment that I have is that I didn't fold the foil like the original recipe, as my salmon wasn't cooked after folding it. Yes I am a kebab addict. Kebabict? This one is 500g venison leg minced with 300g pork to add essential fat, plus 1tbsp cumin seeds, 1tsp coriander seeds, 5 cloves (all toasted + ground), handful finely chopped parsley stalks, 1tbsp Urfa chilli, 1tbsp sumac, salt, 1/2 tsp black pepper. Cooked on the BBQ, of course 🔥 Thats a zhoug (see my highlights) underneath with added watercress, a pomegranate salad on the side and a toasted hazelnut dukkah that definitely wasn’t supposed to be *quite* so finely blitzed on top 🙃 Autumnal ‘bab 🍂🍁

#તુવેરટોઠા Follow me @sanganipooja Follow me @sanganipooja ગુજરાતીઓ ની ઓળખ એટલે ખાવાના ખૂબ શોખીન કહેવાય છે, એમાં પણ સિઝન બદલાય એમ દરેકની પસંદગી ખાવા-પીવા ની બાબતે બદલાતી હોઈ છે. જેમકે હવે શિયાળો આવશે એટલે તુવેરના ટોઠા લોકોને ખૂબ પસંદ પડશે. મને ખુબ ભાવે એટલે આજે લંચ માં તુવેરના ટોઠાની મોજ માણી. આની સાથે દેશી રોટલો, બ્રેડ, ગોળ અને છાશ પ્રેમથી આરોગવાની મજા આવે છે. જોકે એના ટ્રેડિશનલ સ્વાદ માટે તો ચુલા પર બનાવેલા અને તીખાશ વાળા વધારે મોજ કરાવે. પણ ઘરમાં આપણે આપણા સ્વાદ મુજબ બનાવી આની જયાફત ઉઠાવી શકીયે છે. ટોઠા બનાવવાની પ્રક્રિયામાં શરૂઆતમાં સૂકી તુવેરને 4 થી 5 કલાક સરખા પાણી માં પલાળી અને બાફવામાં આવે છે. ત્યારબાદ ભારોભાર તેલ ગરમ મૂકી તેમાં લીલું લસણ (આમા ખાસ વપરાતી સામગ્રી), સૂકું લસણ-આદુ-મરચા ની પેસ્ટ, ડુંગળી, ટામેટા, તુવેર ટોઠા સાથે રેગ્યુલર કિચન મસાલા ઉમેરી, પાણી નાખી ચડાવામાં આવે છે અને છેલ્લે ગરમ મસાલા ઉમેરી તેના મિશ્રણ ને તૈયાર કરવામાં આવે છે. ફૂડ રસિયાઓના સ્વાદ અનુસાર તેમાં થોડી તીખાશ પણ ઉમેરી શકાય છે. ટોઠાની સાથે દેશી રોટલો પણ જો ચુલા પર તૈયાર કરવામાં આવે તો તમને ગામડાંની સફર માં લઇ જશે. જેમાં તમે તમારા ફેમિલી સાથે બેસીને ખાશો તો આનંદ અનેરો જ આવશે. હમણાં થોડા વર્ષો થી શિયાળામાં તુવેર ટોઠા લોકોની પહેલી પસંદ બની રહી છે. અમદાવાદમાં ખૂબ ઓછી જગ્યાએ સ્વાદિષ્ટ તુવેર ટોઠાનો સ્વાદ માણવા મળે છે. સરખો શિયાળો બેસે એટલે એક વાર આશ્રમ રોડ પર મળતા તુવેર ટોઠા ની મોજ કરતી આવીશ. તમે ઘણા સ્વાદને માણતા હશો પણ એક વાર ટોઠાના સ્વાદને જરૂર થી માણજો જે ખરેખર યાદગાર બની જશે. My 5 hour lamb shank with red wine gravy. (Recipe on my story and highlights 🥂) I like lamb one of either two ways - cooked quickly and served pink, or cooked low and slow until falling off the bone, as was the case for these delicious shanks. No blending or cornflour necessary, the vegetables, stock, and wine the lamb is cooked in are simply passed through a sieve to make a very flavoursome, thick gravy - just what you need on a cold day. This is a one pot recipe that you can put in the oven after lunch and ignore until dinner time. I served with my dairy-free truffle mash (recipe posted earlier) and a full bodied glass of red. A seriously deluxe version of a South African classic. This boerewors roll at Kudu in Peckham was full to bursting with delicious goodies. As well as the spicy sausage we had padron peppers, crispy shallots and a runny fried egg. A magic combination in the best sausage and egg roll ever. “The preliminary rule of thumb to go by when understanding the Nendran Pazham’s diverse usability is to ascertain its stage of ripeness. This is, after all, a plantain that can be used as both a “dessert” and “cooking banana.” Color can also serve as a helpful giveaway. At its raw and green stage, locally referred to as pacha kaayi or green banana, these bananas provide the starchy heft called for by standalone curries such as the kaayi mulakittathu (pictured) that sees quartered pieces of raw banana being pressure cooked and given a simple tempering with mustard seeds, red chiles and curry leaves. The same variant is also used in a mutton preparation spiced with aniseed and red chile and coriander powder. Erode Amman Mess, Adyar: People had started talking about this place even before the Virus became the headline. And, I had bookmarked this place back then. But, the final push was from a friend who had visited post lockdown and recommended a few dishes to try. Menu is vast, but if you don't know what to order in a Kongu Food Menu, the order takers are quiet helpful, there. In fact, the greetings by the staff present when you enter or exit is quiet heart warming. You really don't get to see such gesture anywhere anymore. I hope they continue to keep this tradition alive always. I actually regretted when the glass of Kozhi Rasam (₹40) got over, it was that good. Chicken Kola (₹33/pc) was good. I settled for Cup Meals (₹80) against the elaborate Erode Special Vegetarian Meals (₹135) but the waiter who was serving was generous enough to give me some Podi and the Ennai Kathrikai Kozhambu which is a personal favorite. Use of generous amount of Whole Garlic made the Annur Chicken Kozhambu (₹225) an irresistible combination with the Plain Rice. Mutton Nalli Fry (₹280) can be easily called as their Star Dish. Everything about it was spot-on. Muttai Mass (₹90) was loved by all. I relished the Thenga Ennai Omelette (₹35) with my meals. The scent of freshly baked loaves in the wee morning could very possibly be one of the highest perks of the day; and especially so if it comes from a speedy dough recipe. If you're up at 6am and get the little stages of this dough done in between your morning workout / shower / social media scrolling, you could be enjoying this pillowy, buttery, satisfying brioche before 8:30am (and have even had time to put on your make up first) 💛 🌟 Scroll down for video 👇 Quick Brioche Recipe ⬇️ 1/4 cup sugar 8 grams yeast 3/4 cup warm milk 3 & 1/2 cups flour 1 tsp salt 70 grams softened butter 2 eggs 1/2 tsp vanilla Dump all ingredients into your mixer and knead on medium speed for 10 minutes. Cover and proof for 45 minutes. Punch dough down and shape into a ball, cover and rest 10 minutes. Flatten into an oval and spread butter liberally. Roll into a log and insert into a loaf pan (an 8×4 inch loaf pan would be perfect), cover and proof another 30-40 minutes. Brush with eggwash (1 egg + 3 tbsp milk) and bake for 25-35 minutes at 170°C. [ P U M P K I N B R E A D ] from @intervalmke The delicate crust of dark brown sugar adds a sweet crunch to my first bites of the slice of pumpkin bread. I smear on a small dab of orange marscapone and in the next bite, the smell of citrus dances among the dark winter spices. I'm not certain, but there seems to be more nutmeg than what I've tasted in most other pumpkin breads. The bread's spongey texture soaks in the marscapone, and this heavy hunk of gluten free goodness stays moist thanks to that pumpkin puree. It's a savory dessert or a decent grab and go breakfast.
