Broken record time: We love fusion food. It's the future. We're not sure anything can beat it...
Tokyolima's mix of Japanese and Peruvian cuisine, with a combination of traditional and fusion dishes, should be high on your list of places to visit. The fusion even goes as far as to combine meal times, with specific 'Brunch' and now 'Dunch' menu deals available for those who don't like to conform to normal mealtimes (yet to see if they'll make a late night Brinner menu).
We have to confess that we've been to Tokyolima a number of times now, without posting anything (shame on us). Every time we visit, we go for the set menu that is available, and every time we're so impressed with how much food you get, as well as how attentive the service is. Both the kitchen and wait staff are highly accommodating and there's always an option to add a couple of extra dishes if you don't feel full (rarely the case).
For us, the highlights are undoubtedly the 'Small Plates' and the 'Nikkei Raw Bar' dishes, rather than the mains.
The "Ki-mo-chi" Fried Chicken is addictive. It's crispy without being heavy and comes with a spicy mayo dip to dunk in.
All of the 'raw' plates work well in cutting through the heavier meats and providing a freshness mixed with a hit of acidity in the dressings. The beetroot mayo with the Maguro Nuevo is special.
Lastly, we'd like to give some praise for the adaptations made for Gluten Free diners. See our pics and the items listed below for the GF alternatives.
We highly recommend a visit to Tokyolima for 'Brunch', 'Dunch', Dinner or any other time of the day you feel like going. Give your tastebuds a treat this week!
