What does it mean to live a simple, slow and intentional life? especially in 2021.
I have it written in my bio and I know it’s quite a trendy hashtag on Instagram but I would like to hear your thoughts about it.
For me, living simply, slow and with intention means to be able to appreciate the little things, to be in sync with your body and with nature and to be more present in the moment.
This sounds easy but in the rushed, hyper fast and noisy world we live in (including our busy internal worlds, aka our minds) this becomes a daily challenge.
On top of that, it is not easy to be willing to slow down when you know it could be seen as laziness.
Due to the situation we are living in today, there are less events and gatherings (at least offline) and thus although it sucks for many other reasons this could be an opportunity for us all to slow down.
one of the usual tips for living a more intentional life is to try and disconnect more often from our phones. As here, online, is where things are even more busy and information flies at the speed of the light.
But here is what I was thinking today and it is based on my own experience.
We should also learn how to have a simple, slow and intentional life in our virtual worlds. And Maybe it sounds contradictory but If you think about it, for almost all of us, less events offline just means more events, gatherings and meetings online (for both work and social).
If you are living with your friends or family ok, but Think of those who are living alone, who are working from home and all their interactions are online and through their phones.
Sure, I’m not saying that they won’t benefit from turning their phones off but what I’m saying is that since for many of us being online is almost the only way to work, study and attend classes, talk to our friends and family, “go to events” and conferences, to pursue hobbies and even going to therapy, I think we need to learn how to live a simple slow and intentional life also while we are here online doing all these necessary daily activities.
Have you noticed this need and are you Doing something to address it besides just disconnecting from your phone?
