I didn't watch supernatural but I knew of destiel and after it trended with the love confession I decided to watch it. I liked the show but I loved Castiel and Balthazar too, so this is coming from someone who was neutral about destiel but your feelings of being queer baited are valid. What I watched made me think they were setting up characters to be LGBTQ (an article about this by tv guide titled 'Supernatural Has a Queerbaiting Problem That Needs to Stop') and then that happened but a decade later, ambiguously right before the series finale and in the cruelest way possible in the episode that overtook the US election in Twitter trends. But to quote Misha Collins "So Castiel makes this homosexual declaration of love, which is amazing that that happens, and then he dies right after, which plays into a timeless Hollywood trope of ‘kill the gays’" (I read this from a LGBTQ+ site actions of a show reach beyond fandoms). The Castiel love confession itself was beautiful and you should celebrate that a piece of media showed a person at their happiest just being authentically who they are but the immediate death and the total end to the character was homophobic. It's ok to respectfully criticize showrunners and its ok to be sad that they did that to you. And the ending for the brothers, to have one brother live the life he always wanted but lose the person he most cared for and the other not getting to live at all after the man that loved him sacrificed his life for him was unnecessarily heartbreaking. 2020 at its best has been brutally honest and at its worst heinously cruel. I think people need hope so I hope you can still find that faith in fanart, fanfic, and most importantly in each other.
💚Edit:apparently destiel went canon when translated for Spanish audiences, maybe don't criticize showrunners afterall, perhaps its a network fiasco lmao💙
