A sad story about the goodest boy! This beautiful babe is currently fighting hard at the vets. So I'm writing on his behalf. You might know me as Cat Lady.
Yesterday we went out for our morning walk. We were training Fred to walk on a lead so that he could attend vet visits, but it's been hard as he's a feral boy. We'd just taken his lead off as we turned down the track to our house, when a cyclist passed and Freddy bounded off to chase him as he often does just for 5 or 10 seconds. But at that moment a pick up truck came hurtling towards both Fred and the cyclist, braked hard and honked their horn, then... Just went straight over Fred. He could have waited, could have stopped, could have driven around, but he chose to go straight over. It was sickening to watch, like a graphic horror movie. My husband told them they'd broken our dog's legs and they said nothing. I screamed at my husband, Tall Guy, to run and get the car and as he ran down the track, the truck driver drove off leaving me laying at the roadside with Fred bleeding in my arms, his left paw hanging off.
He lay whimpering and licking me, allowing me to cradle him.
He is now at the vet hospital and they are trying to stabilise him for surgery.
The police have said that they will charge us for endangering road users as he wasn't on the lead, so we have been advised to not pursue the crime.
We are in shock and focusing on Freddy and his recovery. He is sedated and dosed up so please don't worry about him suffering. He may need a blood transfusion. The vets have said it is likely he will lose his front left leg.
I will update soon. If anyone would like to help with the vet bills I have included a gofundme link on his profile page. Thanks everyone 💜
