If you have a friend who shares her life with you, then you have entered a sacred space.
her news (the magnificent and the mundane)
her physical company,
her secrets, and
her emotional state of happiness
are all accessible to you because of a privilege that comes with friendship.
You have no right to her.
Instead, you have an honor.
Treat that sacred space like the honor that it is by respecting her.
Even if she’s your mother, your daughter, your sister, your childhood friend, your lifetime friend,
your access to her is a privilege.
Respect her both when she sits beside you in full view, and when her back is to you and her ears cannot hear what you say.
If you do, she will stay beside you.
If you don’t, she will run faster than you ever thought possible.
And she always has a right to run. Because the space that surrounds her is sacred and only open to those who treat that friendship like the honor that it is.
Friendship is a blessing.
I am honored and humbled by the friends who have shared their lives with me over the 40 years I have lived.
#friendship is invaluable.
Invest in your friendships like you invest in your education, your career, and your livelihood. The benefit is immeasurable.
This cottontail bunny sits with Zane only because he respected that sacred space between them. #inspiredbymykids
