This is DonnysFanboy here. With the "Song of The Day"
SOTD: A Few Words For the Firing Squad by RTJ4.
Run The Jewels have made their return to the game, after dropping 3 amazing masterpieces for the culture. This new LP, just like their previous efforts, blew alot of minds because of how good El-P's production and the the duo's lyricism & political commentary was.
But the track that blew away us the most was this one, the outro. Over some of the the loudest El-P sounds, the duo opened up to their audiences and expressed their vulnerability. El-P's verse deals with his mental frustations about him being too smart for the common folk to understand. He knows the reality of the world and it drives him crazy how the rich have a stronghold over the masses. Smartest people are winning at life, manipulating people and ensuring they stay where-ever they are financially without showing some real progress. The idea of being "smart" has turned all dark and twisted to him.
Killer Mike, just like the rest of this record, snapped on this one too, coming with a "Verse of the Year" contender with his 1st verse, where he talks about his mother's death, how it impacted him and how his political activism and ideology will get him killed someday like Malcom X. The other two verses by the duo is them giving a giant FU to the killer cops, paying tribute to their loved ones and asking ppl to draw their weapons for retaliation.
The Saxophone solo and the outro add to the beauty of the track. The most emotional and powerful cut off the album, very relevant during these times.
