I'll preface this by saying that I hate living in routine. BUT, I've found it's always harder to be productive when you don't have some type of schedule however.
I tried planning out my day, but that wasn't for me.
I tried not planning anything, but then nothing got done.
I tried planning half of my day, and hated it even more.
but ever since I started "planning" my day like this, I've found myself able to keep myself in a rough schedule, and productivity has gone up in my life.
basically, the way it goes is this: at the end of my day, or in the morning) I will write down the things I'd like to get done over the next day, and I'll write them in a numbered list. (I use Word). no more than 12 tasks, and no less than 8 when I wake up, I'll pick 3 at random (either say "Hey google, give me a number between 1 and 12" three times, or another method, like rolling a d12 if you have one) and then, I'll pick one of them to do for the next 45 minutes. I'll write down the other 2.
when the 45 minutes are done, I add 1 more task randomly, and add it to the 2 that weren't picked. if I feel that the current task needs to go back on the list, that'll be a 4th option, for me to get back to that day. with my new list, I'll pick another task to do for the next 45 minutes.
rinse and repeat, that's 4 tasks in 3 hours, after that I take a half hour break and do "me time", then back to work. another 3 hours, another 4 tasks, and then another half hour of me time. finally, another run of 4 tasks, and then I'm generally done for the day. if I start at 9, that's 9-12, 12-12:30 me time, 12:30-3:30, 3:30-4 me time, then 4-7, and 7+ is me time.
if I finish all the tasks early, I can either start another list, or just call it quits for the day. any tasks that weren't done that day, I'll put on the list for the next day.
now specifically, when most of the world is stuck inside and routines are getting more and more out of whack, this advice might help you out, the 45 minute chunk is not too huge that you get overwhelmed with a task, and because..... continued in comments
