I like to incorporate service dog tasks when training a trick dog.
There are so many behaviors that I can teach a dog to perform but the amount significantly increases when I teach more complex behaviors (such as things that are mostly taught as service dog tasks).
Your dog does 𝐧𝐨𝐭 have to be a working dog to learn these behaviors. If you do teach them, it is 𝘢𝘥𝘥𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 mental stimulation and 𝘢𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 way to exercise the brain while 𝐛𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 with your dog.
When we think of exercise, we usually think of things like walking, running, weightlifting, etc. However, it is 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭 to remember that your brain is an organ that needs to be exercised.
One of the best ways to strengthen your mind is challenging yourself. Also, take care of your physical health, maintain structure and consistent repetition for retaining new things quicker.
“𝘓𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘭𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘧𝘵𝘦𝘯 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘴 𝘮𝘶𝘤𝘩” — so even training a specific trick for 5 minutes a day, every day, 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐚 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞.
