I wanted to take some of Spot’s new tricks into a higher distraction environment. I think it’s safe to say: he nailed it. 😜 ⁣ ⁣ The only thing that made him hesitate was the end of still weaves but I had to follow through and make sure he finished that last one. Immediately upon completion and following through, I switched tricks - thus enhancing engagement. I never want to bore him when he’s clearly communicating that very thing. ⁣ #DogIsLove⁣ *I do not own this music*

Yes, Spot and I both make mistakes sometimes (first back jump). ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ No one, and nothing, is perfect - but never get stuck on that statement. ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ Always keep moving, just as I do with Spot when we mess up. ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ Stagnant, or still, energy that lingers - is never helpful for moving forward with what we have learned from a mistake. ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ Energy = Intention + Emotion (what we want & how we feel about it) ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ I go into each drill with the mindset of what I want to achieve. I feel calm and confident...projecting that energy outward for all the animals, especially Spot while training! ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ #DogIsLove⁣ ⁣ *I DO NOT OWN THIS MUSIC*

I like to incorporate service dog tasks when training a trick dog. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ There are so many behaviors that I can teach a dog to perform but the amount significantly increases when I teach more complex behaviors (such as things that are mostly taught as service dog tasks). ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Your dog does 𝐧𝐨𝐭 have to be a working dog to learn these behaviors. If you do teach them, it is 𝘢𝘥𝘥𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 mental stimulation and 𝘢𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 way to exercise the brain while 𝐛𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 with your dog. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ When we think of exercise, we usually think of things like walking, running, weightlifting, etc. However, it is 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭 to remember that your brain is an organ that needs to be exercised. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ One of the best ways to strengthen your mind is challenging yourself. Also, take care of your physical health, maintain structure and consistent repetition for retaining new things quicker.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ “𝘓𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘭𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘧𝘵𝘦𝘯 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘴 𝘮𝘶𝘤𝘩” — so even training a specific trick for 5 minutes a day, every day, 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐚 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ #DogIsLove

Any day spent with Spot - is a great day. ❤️ ⁣ ⁣ Isn’t it funny how dogs aren’t the ones who “go to college,” yet they have so much more to teach us than we could even imagine? ⁣ ⁣ Most often, people think that dog trainers teach the dog — period. The end.⁣ ⁣ However, that’s not the case; dogs teach trainers HOW to work with other dogs. They teach us how to effectively communicate with them as an individual. ⁣ ⁣ Yes, dog trainers are teaching the dog in certain aspects...but never forget how much the dog is teaching the trainer/human. ⁣ ⁣ #DogIsLove ⁣ ⁣ *I DO NOT OWN THIS MUSIC*

Working with Bobby was so much fun. 😍⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Displayed in this video: Bobby waits until commanded to eat a treat that is held in front of his nose. ⁣Also, there’s a bow & stand at the end. 🥰 ⁣ ⁣⁣ Command used: “𝘛𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘐𝘵”⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I do 𝐧𝐨𝐭 use the word “𝘰𝘬𝘢𝘺” as a release word. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Additionally, I have different release words depending on the situation: to greet someone (𝘴𝘢𝘺 𝘩𝘪), to urinate/defecate (𝘨𝘰 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘺), to go run/initiating the end of a session (𝘣𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘬)...etc. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ 𝐍𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 underestimate the amount of knowledge that an animal can comprehend, retain and apply. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ However, go at their 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐮𝐚𝐥 pace; 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 push just because you can see the dog’s potential. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Patience is a virtue and truly one of the 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 important things to remember when training. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ #DogIsLove
