After seeing @lasvegasballpythons story about the Costco Coconut Husk I decided to check it out for myself and see what the differences are. First off, I am not advocating for or against this product vs any other coconut product. I just had Reptichip on hand, so that’s what I’m comparing it to. The Costco brand has two blocks for $15, I only hydrated one of the blocks so that I could compare. You can see that the reptichip did make a little bit more in total. Reptichip feels a bit more dense and the Costco brand just a bit more light and airy. I’d imagine this would make it dry out a little quicker. Both are pretty fibrous, but the Costco brand might have just a bit more. As with all my recent Reptichip blocks, there were numerous strands of paper or plastic within it. Video at the end shows both of them well. Biggest difference I found besides the amount it made was the amount of tannins the Costco brand had after sitting in a water bowl for 4 hours. The reptichip bowl was basically still clear. We are still waiting to hear back from the company that makes the blocks to make sure it is 100% organic and pesticide free before using it for animals. If it is, I don’t see a reason why I wouldn’t use this brand. Have you tried the Costco brand yourself? Let me know!
