Just my daily routine doing some reading and eating a protein bar...nothing to see here. #ad Thank you to @thinkproducts for partnering with me for this video! They make my favorite protein bars so I was very happy to work with them. I like to eat them in the morning or when I need a snack during the day. Diet is a big focus for me this year and so far these are fitting in nicely. As for the splits...well I think I might do more floor stretching and less chair stretching because I think it's best for my future 🤣 #ithinkican

I got a lot of questions after my story post yesterday about the MRI I got. Here’s what’s up for those who don’t know. About two years ago, I got an injury somewhere in my lower back area that caused pain in my right glute. It seemed to come out of nowhere - I hadn’t had an accident or fall or anything like that. The pain was so bad at first that I couldn’t roll over in bed without intense pain. It also went down the back of my leg. From what I learned, it seemed like it could be a pinched sciatic nerve but I wasn’t sure. I had heard that chiropractors could help so I went to one for about a month. At first it seemed like it was helping but then improvement stopped so I stopped going and went to my doctor. They sent me to physical therapy. By that point, the pain was down but it hurt when bending backwards so I had been avoiding backbends, especially in yoga. They helped me start to get some mobility back but it didn’t solve the root problem. For the next year and a half it was manageable but still felt a little off. There were three instances where it flared up after lifting something heavy where I then couldn’t walk without pain and had to take several days off from exercising. Eventually I went back to my doctor and they wanted to send me to physical therapy again but I asked about going to a different type of doctor - PM&R - and ended up going there. From there they sent me to physical therapy because they said an MRI wouldn’t be covered by insurance. Physical therapy didn’t help. I went back to PM&R and they said there wasn’t much they could do. I wasn’t satisfied with that answer. I suggested an MRI so I could get a proper diagnosis. Yesterday I got the MRI and am now awaiting the results. I am not sure at this point the cause of my issue. But the reason I am posting this video is because my pain began the day after shooting this video and several others. I don’t know if it is at all related but everything seemed totally fine that day. I am not experiencing significant pain in my back now. I did the MRI in hopes that I can get to the bottom of the issue and prevent future pain and flare ups. Also, the MRI machine is scary af. They need to fix that. 😅

It’s somebody’s birthday! 🎉🎂 Ella has gotten a little bigger but she’s still the same playful puppy she’s always been. From trying to play with me while I’m in a handstand to taking hour long naps on my lap, she’s turned into a wonderful little woman and I’m so lucky to know her. A lot has happened with me in these two years, but this is about her so we will get to that later. We’re off to go to the pet store to pick out a new toy for her special day. Make sure you wish her a happy birthday, and if you see her give her a boop. 🐾

I have been getting asked roughly a lot of times per day how to eat an apple in a handstand. People say... I want to eat an apple without my hands while in an inversion. So I thought I would let everyone know. Guys, if you want to eat an apple in a handstand without hands, you have to first eat it in a forearm stand where you can use one hand. I wasn’t born like this. Hope this helps, but I already know it does. Let me know if you have any questions.

Saying you’re not flexible enough to do yoga is like saying you’re not clean enough to take a shower. Photo by @sfreneenyc Shorts @yogacrow

Wanted to share a little tip. I said this to a student in one of my classes recently and she said she had a breakthrough from it. Let me preface this by saying that different things work for different bodies so do what works for you. The point here is to try to have your elbows about your wrists rather than going out to the sides. I often see people with their elbows out wider than their hands and they’re struggling to find stability and strength in the pose. I find that having the elbows stacked over the wrists creates more stability and it actually takes less strength to hold yourself up. I do want to be clear that this is not saying that you have to place your knees directly on your arms and that they can’t go out farther to the sides like the video on the left. That is totally fine to do and feels better for some people. The point is to have your elbows over your wrists. That said, do whatever you want y’all. Different things work for different people. Be curious and let me know what you think.

Well guys it finally happened. Some of you know about my journey with kitchen appliance yoga and I had to take a break from it to focus on other things. But some of you know that one of my biggest goals was to work toward dishwasher yoga. But that shit is hard. Oven yoga is one thing. Dishwasher is a whole other level. But I’m proud to say I have finally done it. It took moving to a whole new place but I did it. Please let me know if you have any questions about my journey and also if you think that refrigerator yoga is even attainable by anyone.

I spent a lot of my life trying to fit in, to not stand out, to not be myself. To blend in because that was easier than the risk of being judged. But that’s not the case anymore. Every day I am learning who I am and I know that I’m not supposed to just blend in with everyone. I know that I’m different and I’m not supposed to be the same as everyone, to do things the same way, to fit in. There’s a reason I was put on this earth and it was not so I could blend in with the crowd. So I won’t be doing that anymore. I’m learning to be me and no one else. To own my story. To get up on a railing at the Vessel in New York City and do the splits and bend backwards because why not. Because this is me. Photo by @sfreneenyc

I have practiced a lot of different types of yoga... oven yoga, chair yoga, cabinet yoga. But bed yoga is right up there with my faves. I just moved into my own place and I'm so grateful to @lullbed for this awesome mattress. It's literally perfect for me and I couldn't be happier. I'm still learning how to do yoga on it but practice makes progress right? The headstand wobbles made me happy. Thank you @lullbed for making this move way easier and much more comfy for me. Thinking about what to write here, there are so many updates I have for you all. So many things to share. But when I look at this picture, all I can think about is how I don’t know what I’m going to do when I don’t get to see this dog every day. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ More to come. Much love.
